Allergy Patch Testing

At Brisbane West Dermatology, we offer allergy patch testing, a procedure to identify allergens causing contact dermatitis, helping guide effective treatment and lifestyle adjustments.

Patch testing is a diagnostic procedure used to identify substances causing allergic contact dermatitis. During the test, a series of allergens are applied to the skin, typically on the back, using particular patches. These allergens are left in place for 48 hours, with results evaluated after 96 hours. Patch testing helps pinpoint allergens, guiding treatment and lifestyle adjustments to manage skin reactions. Testing is necessary for those with unexplained rashes, itching, or irritation, and is distinct from other allergy tests like skin prick testing.
